This week we have rounded off our learning about a far off place by thinking about Space.  We have enjoyed using songs to help us learn about the planets and listened to lots of alien stories.  Our Drawing Club text this week as The Smeds and The Smoos, a great book that helped us to think about how we see other people and who we can be friends with.  We took several space related quizzes on the CBeebies website and we rocked.  We now know the names and order of the planets, and some of their features and we understand why we have day and night.  We loved blasting off into space in our rocket, what great teamwork we used to build it!  And we practiced counting backwards when it was time to launch into outer space!  In maths we have made tangrams and learnt about how we can rotate shapes, we linked this to our learning about day and night and used our globe to help us understand about the rotation of the earth.  We have also been creative making great models of the moon which we can’t wait to bring home.

Next week is half term, please help the children to extend their geographical knowledge even further if you travel anywhere, by finding the location on a map, thinking about how far away the place is, how we can travel there and what the place and people are like when we get there.  Try writing a postcard or diary with your child if you do travel.  Keep up the reading over the holiday and have a go at practising doubling numbers, identifying odd and even numbers and making number bonds to ten.  Have a wonderful break!
