On 17th June, 25 of the Year 3/4 children set off on an adventure to Caldecotte Xperience in Milton Keynes. This is the second year we have run this residential for our Year 3/4 children and as we prepared to set off the weather forecast suggested that we were about to have a very warm three days. It wasn’t wrong!
The children slept in a large yurt with a boys’ bedroom and a girls’ bedroom around a central space. Over the three days they took part in 6 activities which included climbing, caving, archery and rafted canooeing. Alongside the planned activities, there were whole group trips to the local park and free time to play in the woods, as well as time to play card games and a lot of football games took place!
Mrs. Hall, Mrs. Shaw, Mrs. Gooden and I accompanied the trip and were all impressed by the behaviour of our group, particularly given the fact that the children are only in Year 3/4. There were some wonderful moments where children demonstrated our three Golden Rules which are to be safe, kind and positive. Many of our learning behaviours were also demonstrated with children being resilient when things seemed challenging.
We are now making plans to offer the same residential to the children currently in Swifts next Summer and to the children currently in Wrens and Robins in Summer 2028. It will be here before we know it!
