Falcons (Year 4/5)

Welcome to Falcons! We are excited to begin another busy and enjoyable year together and can’t wait to see all that the children achieve over the year ahead.

Falcons is a mixed Year 4 and Year 5 class with 28 children, including 24 Year 4 pupils and 4 Year 5 pupils. The class is taught by Miss. Sam McDonald who is also the Assistant Headteacher. On Wednesdays, Mrs. Allison Shaw teaches the class whilst Miss McDonald has her PPA and leadership release time. Mrs. Ali McGivney is the Teaching Assistant in the class for the whole week. Mrs. Jo Scott, our SEN Teaching Assistant, supports in Falcons for some of the week, providing support to specific children.

This year, we will continue to encourage all children to work hard, be kind and do their best in everything they do. We aim to provide a happy and supportive classroom where children feel confident to ask questions, challenge themselves and enjoy learning. Following our Pirton 6Rs, we encourage children to develop the skills and attitudes needed to become resilient, responsible and reflective learners who take pride in their work and achievements. Above all, we remind children to be safe, be kind and be positive every day.

Reading is an important part of our school day, and we encourage children to read regularly at home as well as in school. Through a range of high-quality texts, children will develop their fluency, vocabulary and understanding, while also discovering the enjoyment that reading can bring.

For our Year 4 pupils, we will be spending time building confidence and fluency with multiplication facts up to 12 × 12. Knowing times tables well helps children across all areas of maths and prepares them for the Multiplication Tables Check later in the year.

Home learning continues to play an important role in supporting progress. Regular practice at home helps children to reinforce what they have learned in school, develop independence and establish positive habits for the future.
