School Ethos

Pirton School has been at the centre of village life since 1877. We currently have 6 classes of which 2 are mixed age classes. Our cohort numbers vary which means that we have classes of varying sizes. The children in our school are taught in classes but are very much part of the wider school community and this is nurtured from the very beginning of their time with us through the house system, pupil groups and shared lunch and playtimes.

VISION AND VALUES

Vision statement

The school seeks to provide a rich and varied curriculum that ensures that all children are challenged to achieve their best and become confident and independent learners.

Therefore we will:

  • inspire lifelong learning;
  • celebrate and value the individual strengths of ourselves and others;
  • develop and value high aspirations for all;
  • understand how we can positively contribute to the diverse world we live in.

VALUES

As well as the five British values promoted in all UK schools (Democracy, The Rule of Law, Individual Liberty, Mutual Respect, and Tolerance of those with different faiths), we aim to:

Build a thriving school at the centre of the community by offering all the opportunities of a large school within a small school, and ensuring a highly supportive learning environment.

Have a school where every child is known and respectfully treated as an individual, with their strengths and talents celebrated and nurtured to support them in reaching their full potential.

Through a clear set of shared learning behaviours, ensure children’s progress and achievement is at the heart of everything we do.

We have three shared Golden Rules which are the common language of our school. These are reinforced through our weekly Celebration Assemblies. Our Golden Rules are:

  • Be kind
  • Be safe
  • Be positive

In addition we have 6 learning behaviours which are, like the school rules, embedded through our school and our shared language for adults and children. We ask, expect and value the following learning behaviours:

  • Readiness
  • Resourcefulness
  • Readiness
  • Reflectiveness
  • Responsibility
  • Respectfulness
