Feeling Festive in Wrens. Friday 5th December 2025

We definitely have the Christmas spirit in Wrens this week. We have enjoyed talking about what our elves have been up to at home as well as putting up and decorating our class Christmas tree. It is always a lovely time of year to work in Reception as the children are so excited and full of awe and wonder. It’s also always lovely to hear the children singing Christmas songs. We are feeling very festive indeed!

This week in Phonics we have been continuing to apply our phonics skills to read and write simple words and have had a real focus on practising and memorising tricky words such as ‘the’, ‘go’, ‘into’, ‘we’ and ‘be.

In Maths this week we have been continuing to subitise, especially when the amounts are not represented as they on the face of a die. We have then been going a step further and the children have been adding the amounts that appear on two die together and have been representing this in a number sentence or part part whole model. We definitely have a classroom full of magnificent mathematicians.

In Drawing club this week our text focus has been Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers and the children enjoyed listening to this story and then thinking of their own ending. We also thought about other lost items and what we would do to reunite them with their owners.

Next week is our Christmas song performance (Wednesday 10th at 2:15pm). Please ensure you arrive with plenty of time. The PTA will also be selling drinks and mince pies from 1:45pm. We can’t wait to show you the songs we have been learning.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend,

Mrs Chattey
