What a fantastic week! We have thoroughly enjoyed Science week where we have been asking questions, making observations, giving explanations and investigating our own questions.
On Monday, Owls started an investigation to find out whether reaction times slow down with age. We used the reaction time test at:
The test measures your reaction time and asks for your age, helping us compare results. If anyone at home would like to try it, feel free to have a go!
On Wednesday, we worked in groups to investigate a question looking at what effects the distance a paper aeroplane travels. Some children investigated if the material of the plane affects the distance, some investigated the shape of the plane and some looked at what happens when you add weight to the wings. We worked scientifically and discussed what variables need to stay the same and what need to change. We made the planes and investigated our question. We drew conclusions and discussed what we would change. We did this outside so therefore the wind affected our investigation. Next time, we said we would do it in the hall.
On Thursday, we really enjoyed Explorify’s ‘Zoom In, Zoom Out’ activities to look closely at some unusual organisms called tardigrades and snottites, discussing what they might be and learning about the strange environments where they live.
On Friday, we took part in a BBC live lesson where we looked at all things Space. We looked at the moon, different light sources and discussed how the moon emits light. We also watched ‘The Moon Movie’ and learned how long the moon takes to orbit earth.
