K’Nex Challenge- Wednesday 18th March 2026

Owls took part in an exciting K’Nex Challenge where they used their STEM knowledge and skills to design and build a rocket. The children worked in teams to plan their ideas, solve problems and carefully construct their models, showing great creativity and resilience throughout the task.

Once completed, each group presented their design to the rest of the class, explaining how their rocket worked and the thinking behind their choices. They were awarded points for design, teamwork, imagination and reflectiveness, encouraging them to think like real engineers and evaluate their work.

The standard of entries was incredibly high and all of the children should feel proud of their efforts. A special well done to Eliza, Pym, Alex and Frank, who received honourable mentions for their fantastic designs and thoughtful presentations.

A huge congratulations to Harrison and Charles, who were awarded first prize. Their innovative and well-constructed design stood out, and we are delighted to share that their rocket will be entered into the regional finals – a fantastic achievement!

Well done to everyone involved for demonstrating such excellent teamwork, creativity and problem-solving skills.

  1. Well done everyone, the photographs show that there was a lot of thought and imagination used in these rocket models. It looks like all the designs had been planned carefully to ensure they would balance ready for blast off and that needed good team work and concentration. Good luck to Harrison and Charles as their design goes into the regional final.
It was very topical that the K’nex models were rockets and I am sure that the Owls class will have been watching some of the Artemis II moon flyby mission that occurred over the Easter holidays. That rocket blast off was amazing and the Head of Science at NASA was Nichola Fox a lady who comes from Hitchin!
