What a lovely week we have had in Wrens. We have finished the Reception Baseline now and the children were all really eager to complete the activities. Everyone tried their best and it was lovely for me to see what the children could already do. This week we have also started our more formal Phonics and Maths lessons which everyone has engaged really well with.
A reminder that if you need to pass a quick message on to me in the mornings, please wait until all of the children have been greeted and are in the classroom. Sometimes it may be easier to email the office who are very good at passing messages onto teachers as soon as they receive them. If you need a longer conversation with me, please wait until the end of the day when all of the children have been dismissed, or again, email the office and I will either telephone you or email you back with a date and time for us to meet.
In Phonics this week we have been learning the phonemes (sounds) for the graphemes (letters) s, a, t and p. We have also been doing some oral blending games and have been practising reading the words sat, tap, at and as.
In Maths this week we have been subitising and showing amounts on our fingers. The children really like to play ‘fast fingers’ in maths where I call out a number, and they have to show me that amount on their fingers as fast as they can. Subitising is when you can say the number of object you can see in a set without counting them. The children’s maths homework this week will support them with this skill. Please ensure to return your child/children’s homework books every Monday so that we can send home the next bit of homework.
I have been really proud of all the hard work the children in Wrens have put in this week. It has been lovely to continue to get to know them and to share with you how they have settled in.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Mrs Chattey
