Welcome back to Wrens, we hope you have had a fun filled Christmas break.
We have had a busy first week back at school, sharing our memories from our holiday and enjoying spending time with our friends. We talked about the number of the new year and how children celebrated the new year, we all held hands and sang Auld Lang Syne. We made 2024 calendars which are being displayed at school for now but will be sent home. This week we have been asking ‘Is nought a number?’ and we have been enjoying singing about Zero Zero Superhero. We have been recapping our phonics learning from last term too. We began Drawing Club this week, it is an approach to literacy that encourages mark making, drawing, writing, imagination, story telling skills and ambitious vocabulary. We do about ten minutes of learning together then each child comes to the drawing club table through the morning to work on their story. The children are loving it, the book we worked on this week was The Gruffalo’s Child.
The children have also really enjoyed the cold weather, it even snowed one day while we were outside! One of our drawing club words was blizzard, we were hoping that the flurry would become a blizzard but sadly not. The other words we learnt this week were gigantic, scaly, camouflage, courageous, petrifying, ravenous and slumbering. Please try to drop these into conversation at home.
