Remembrance Day in Kestrels

Kestrels have been finding out about the history of wearing poppies.

Wearing a poppy was inspired by the field of Flanders where they started growing naturally where many battles were fought in the 1st world war.

What each colour of the red poppy symbolises

It is thought that the red of the petals represents the blood of those who gave their lives.

The black button in the middle is for the mourning of those who never saw their loved ones again.

The green leaf shows the hope that the grass and crops growing after the war brings.

Did you know that there are 5 different remembrance poppies?
