This week in Computing, Owls became engineers and programmers as we used micro:bits to create our own automatic football scoreboards. First, we learned how to use variables in our code. Variables are used to store information that can change. We programmed our micro:bits so that a variable would update whenever a goal was scored. Next, we combined events, variables and text outputs to create a goal display. When the circuit detected a goal, the micro:bit automatically increased the score and displayed the updated total on the screen. To bring our projects to life, we connected the micro:bit to a simple circuit. Using foil goals, we created a system where the circuit was completed when the ball entered the goal. This triggered the event in our code and recorded the goal automatically. Finally, we tested our scoreboards by playing our own mini football games.
