Dance in Owls- 22.10.26

This half term, Owls have been learning all about the Haka, a traditional Māori ceremonial dance from New Zealand. We discovered that the Haka is much more than just a dance. It is used to express feelings, tell stories, show unity and celebrate important events.

During our lessons, we explored the key features of a Haka. We learned how strong movements, powerful facial expressions, chanting and teamwork help create energy and meaning. We watched examples of different Haka performances and discussed how performers use their voices and body language to communicate a message to the audience.

Once we understood the important features, we began learning some traditional Haka-inspired movements. We practised using strong stances, rhythmic actions and coordinated movements to perform together as a group. It was great fun but it also required concentration, confidence and teamwork.
