Swifts had a wonderful time celebrating VE Day with the rest of the school. The children took part in a whole school assembly, where they listened to moving and insightful stories about the war and VE Day from members of our school community. Many of the children came dressed as evacuees or in red, white and blue, which added to the atmosphere of remembrance and celebration. Later in the day, they joined workshops led by Mrs Fryer to learn more about how the war impacted Pirton specifically. A special thank you goes to Finn, who brought in fascinating wartime artefacts from his family, and to Hettie, who shared a relative’s coat, helping to bring history to life for everyone. We also heard stories from Lucia’s, Ava’s, and Alice’s families.

The VE Day assembly was so lovely and well organised, it was very meaningful to see all the children so engaged with all the VE and wartime memories !
Thank you for coming to the assembly. It was wonderful to see the picture of your Dad as a baby at a VE Day celebration 80 years ago and incredible to have him in the assembly itself as part of the audience.
It really was a wonderful assembly, and very very moving. They all did so very well, and they should feel very proud of themselves. They looked wonderful all dressed up.
However I think it would have been a great idea for children to speak into a microphone as it was very difficult to hear the quieter children speak and also background noise.
We are pleased you enjoyed the assembly. As always when we invite family members, this does mean that there can be more background noise from siblings and babies despite the best efforts of parents to entertain/pacify little ones!
