In maths, Swifts have been learning how to tell the time to the nearest 5 minutes, using both analogue clocks. We also explored how time is measured, discovering that there are 60 seconds in a minute, 60 minutes in an hour, and 24 hours in a day. The children enjoyed discussing and making sensible estimates about what activities could be completed in different units of time—for example, what they might do in 1 minute, 15 minutes, or an hour. Please continue to support your child at home by telling the time together and talking about how long everyday tasks take to complete.

Swifts – I am very impressed by your time knowledge. I have heard Miss McDonald teaching you to tell the time last week and I heard her say “We’ve cracked this!” at least once this week. Well done – this is an important skill, you’ll never be late for work when you are adults!
Thank you Mrs Magdeburg. The clocks we used in class helped us to learn the time. The trickiest part was telling the time to the nearest 5 minutes. From Swifts
Thank you for your message. It can be hard to tell the time but it is a very important skill. You’ll be able to remind Miss McDonald when it is lunchtime now!
