Little Red Riding Hood visits Wrens. Thursday 29th January 2026

This week in Wrens we have enjoyed learning about the traditional tale of Little Red Riding hood. In our Computing session this week we have been practising our computing skills by making our own digital wolves and labelling parts of their body such as “big ears”. The children are also enjoying our Guided Reading text “Bog Baby” and they have answered some great questions with lots of thought and justification behind their responses.

This week in Phonics we have been revisiting sounds which the class are not yet secure with. When more digraphs are introduced to Reception aged children, they can find it a bit tricker to remember all of them. The phase 3 grapheme chart can be found here on our website if you would like to support their child with their recognition of graphemes https://www.pirtonschool.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Phase-3-sound-mat.pdf

In Drawing Club this week we have been looking at Little Red Riding hood and we created a shared write about Little Red Riding Hood. The children’s writing is really improving and they are growing in independence each session.

In Maths this week we have started our new White Rose Maths unit of growing 6, 7, 8. In this unit we have been looking at finding one more and one less, subitising numbers up to 8 and thinking about the composition of numbers.

In Art this week we have learnt more about our Artist of the half term, Henry Moore, and we used clay to create Henry Moore inspired sculptures.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend,

Mrs Chattey
