Materials in Science- 22.10.26

This week, we summed up our learning from our ‘Everyday Materials’ science unit and completed a challenge to build a storm-proof shelter for Puffin Peter.
We had to consider how Peter would stay safe, warm, and dry during a wild storm. We investigated and tested different materials, focusing closely on three main properties:
  • Waterproof: To keep the pouring rain out so Peter stays completely dry.
  • Transparent: So Peter can see right through his windows and watch for the storm to clear.
  • Rigid: To ensure the shelters stay stiff, strong, and won’t blow away or bend in the heavy wind.
The classroom showed super teamwork and brilliant scientific vocabulary. The children did an incredible job predicting, selecting the best materials, and constructing their shelters.
