We have had another lovely sunny week in Wrens and had an amazing time during Sports Day. All of the children in Wrens had been practising the races and they all did a fantastic job. As part of preparing the children for transition to year one, both Miss Dunham and Miss Allen came to visit Wrens and read them a story.
This week in phonics we have revisited the grapheme ar and have been reading real and alien words in preparation for transition to Year 1. The children think it’s very funny when an alien word appears in our new words section.
In Drawing Club this week our text focus has been The Enormous Turnip. Not only has this story inspired some of the children to retell their own innovated version of the story (such as Edie, Iris and Norah’s story The Massive Strawberry with a sequel called The Enormous Watermelon), but all of the children produced some fantastic instructional writing about how to make turnip soup.
In Maths this week we have been revisiting mass, capacity and addition as the children identified these areas as units they would like to revisit. As part of revisiting these units, I have been asking the children questions to delve deeper into their mathematical thinking in preparation for Year 1.
In our Forest Friday session this week we enjoyed team building games and songs. I know that Mrs Magdeburg particularly enjoyed our whole class rendition of In and Out the Dusty Bluebells!
I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend,
Mrs Chattey and Miss Hughes
