The Pink Panther visits Wrens. Friday 15th May 2026

What a wonderful week we have had in Wrens. Despite the greyer weather this week we have enjoyed using the balance bikes again and it is amazing to see the incredible balance the children have when riding the bikes! This skill not only supports them with riding a bike with pedals and no stabilisers but also supports their writing and mark making skills.

In Phonics this week I have assessed the children’s knowledge of all of the tricky words and graphemes taught to date and nearly all of the class are secure with 100% of the graphemes taught which is amazing! I have also said to Wrens many times, that they are the strongest class I have ever taught when it comes to memorising the tricky words – they also have so much enthusiasm for tricky words!

In Maths this week we have been looking at grouping and sharing and some of the children were even able to represent our learning using the divide and multiply mathematical symbols. Maths is definitely a strong area for this cohort of children.

In Drawing Club this week we have been looking at the silent animation of the Pink Panther and we have been writing sentences to describe our own version of the Pink Panther as well as writing about something mischievous that the Pink Panther might do – such as setting a trap!

In Music this week the children have enjoyed listening to Superstitious by Stevie Wonder and they are thoroughly enjoying playing the glockenspiels to our Charanga song Big Bear Funk.

Another highlight was Arjun’s home learning presentation about dinosaurs. We were all very interested in what he had to say and enjoyed looking at his photos from Hertfordshire Zoo.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend,

Mrs Chattey
