Welcome back to the second half of the Autumn term. This is a busy but exciting half term! I hope you all had a wonderful break. It has been lovely to see the children settle back into school so quickly and pick back up the routines that we established before half term. This November the reading ambassadors have set a reading challenge where the children play ‘book bingo’. I sent the bingo sheets home with all of the Wrens children this week. At the end of November, children who have filled in a row, column, diagonal or the whole bingo card win a prize at the end of the month.
Thank you to those parents who attended the parent information evening about reading in Reception this week. It was great to see so many of you in attendance. I have uploaded the grapheme charts we use in class onto our class webpage which can be found here under the Parent Resources heading: https://www.pirtonschool.org.uk/curriculum/wrens-class I have also uploaded the presentation from the meeting in the same place.
In Phonics this week we have been learning the phonemes for the graphemes h and b. We have also been recapping the sounds we learnt before half term. It is fantastic to see that so many children have remembered them all! I was very impressed by the children’s writing in phonics this week and they were all very independent.
In Maths this week our new Whiterose unit is 1, 2, 3, 4, 5! In this unit we have been subitising and exploring matching numeral to quantity. Here is a good video to support your child with subsisting. Subitising is when a child can say how many objects they can see without counting them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PSlA-u_ABmU
In Drawing Club this week we have been looking at the animation of the Wombles. We created our own Womble and drew and wrote about what they might collect. Later in the week, we created an adventure that our Womble would go on. There were some very imaginative ideas from the children!
Bike and Scooters in the EYFS area. Following advice from the local authority, we do not provide bicycle helmets for the children when using our bikes and scooters on the playground during child initiated learning. If you would like to provide a helmet for your child, please ensure it is properly fitted to their head shape and size, is in school everyday and is clearly labelled with their name.
I hope you all have a lovely weekend,
Mrs Chattey
