Working hard in Wrens. Friday 28th November 2025

This week in Wrens we have enjoyed learning about the story Not Now Bernard in our drawing club lessons. This sparked conversations about changes in technology and we had some lovely ideas shared about where the monster in the story may have come from. We also had our first fire drill on Wednesday and Wrens did an amazing job of walking quietly out of the class and lining up on the high court. They made the Reception team really proud with how sensible and mature they were. We then discussed what a fire drill was why we need to line up and do the register again.

In Maths this week we have been revisiting prior learning to ensure that everyone is secure. I was blown away by the application of our learning I have seen during the children’s play and lots of children were able to use dice and subistise the amount they could see and then use the dice in a part part whole model to show an addition problem.

In phonics this week we have been continuing to learn tricky words and new graphemes and the children are enjoying reading the tricky words as ‘passwords’ before they go in and out of our outdoor area.

Thank you so much to everyone in Wrens who has taken part in the Book Bingo that has been running this November. I have really enjoyed looking at the photos of the children taking part in the bingo challenge and the emails from parents have really made my week. Thank you for the kind words and I’m glad that those who have taken part have enjoyed it so much. I will be making a display of the photos in the nest to show case reading at Pirton to everyone.

This week the children also met Hannah Isher who will be taking over as PPA cover teacher in Wrens after Christmas. Miss Isher is a very experienced teacher in EYFS and I know you will all join me in wishing her a very warm Pirton welcome when she officially starts in January.

The rehearsals for our Christmas songs are well underway and the children are becoming more confident with the songs every time we sing them. Please could you bring a labelled Christmas jumper into school by Friday December 5th.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend,

Mrs Chattey
