This week in Wrens we have had a great time learning about the story a Dark Dark Tale by Ruth Brown in Drawing Club. The children loved how the story built up and then they found the reveal very funny! We have produced some fantastic writing and drawings, and a highlight was working collaboratively during our Masterpiece Monday art session to create a castle like the one in the story.
In Maths this week we finished learning about mass and capacity, ending with some super mathematical language being used by both Iris and Joe using the language of ‘greatest capacity’ and ‘narrow’ and ‘wide’ to explain how they knew which container out of a choice of 3 would have the greatest capacity. We have a class of magnificent mathematicians! The next unit of learning in maths is all about the numbers 6,7,8. We also can’t wait to share with you our understanding of the composition of number in our sharing assembly soon!
In Phonics this week we have been focusing on the phonemes (sounds) for the letters (graphemes) th, ng and ee. We have also been learning the tricky words they. Ch, sh and ng can be tricky digraphs (2 letters that make 1 sound) to master at first. This is a great game you can use at home to help your child master these sounds as well as many others https://ictgames.com/mobilePage/spookySounds/index.html
Please don’t forget to hear your child read as often as possible at home and record how they did in their reading record. You can also read comments from myself and other members of staff and volunteers who have heard your child read throughout the week.
The children have had a keen interest in animals this week and we thoroughly enjoyed watching some David Attenborough clips about Beavers and dinosaurs. We also made pom pom spiders and minibeasts from playdough inspired by the cobwebs in our drawing club text.
If you would like to access other resources to support your child with their learning at home, I have added some links onto the Wrens curriculum page. I will add to these, so be sure to check our webpage regularly here https://www.pirtonschool.org.uk/curriculum/wrens-class
