Wrens (Reception)

Welcome to Wrens!

Wrens are taught by Mrs. Bethany Chattey (EYFS Lead) with TA support from Mrs. Cathy Williams. On Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays during the afternoon, Ms. Isher teaches the class whilst Mrs. Chattey has her PPA (Planning, Preparation and Assessment) and Leadership release time. Both Mrs. Chattey and Ms. Isher are highly experienced Early Years teachers.

We have 22 Reception children in our class.  We are an early years setting, based within our primary school, and we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage, preparing our children to enter Key Stage One at the end of this year.

In Wrens, we provide a warm and nurturing environment where our youngest learners can grow, explore, and thrive. Our curriculum is play-based and child-led, following the interests of the children as much as possible to create meaningful and engaging learning experiences.

We value strong home–school partnerships and encourage families to complete the home learning books regularly. This helps us connect with your child’s experiences outside of school and supports conversation and learning in the classroom.

Key Information:

  • PE lessons take place every Wednesday afternoon. Please ensure your child has their PE kit in school.

  • A fruit or vegetable snack and milk are provided daily. Please note that milk must be ordered and paid for if your child is over the age of 5.

  • We embrace outdoor learning in all seasons, so please make sure your child has appropriate clothing for all weather conditions.

  • Accidents can happen, so we ask that your child has a set of spare clothes kept in school at all times.

  • Reading is a vital part of your child’s development. Please ensure that reading logs and reading books are brought to school every day, as we encourage daily reading both at school and at home.

  • Library books and reading books are changed weekly, unless your child is reading frequently at home—in which case, books may be changed more often, depending on their progress and readiness for new material.

We look forward to a fantastic year of learning, discovery, and growth with our wonderful Wrens!
